Plazuela del Quijote

This small square was specially constructed in 2005 to commemorate the granting to Guanajuato of the title “Cervantes Capital of America”. The bust of Don Quixote was actually made in Spain, in 1925 by Santiago de Santiago, but was donated to the local Icongraphic Museum. Then, in 2010, the lower section was added, with its incredible burial of Don Quixote – in honor of an oft-repeated local legend – together with the Guanajuato edition of the book, a bronze plinth and a commemorative plaque.
