Presa de los Santos

This reservoir gets its name from the eight statues of saints set on baroque pedestals flanking the wall of the dam. It was built during the last third of the eighteenth century by Alejandro Durán Villaseñor, the same man responsible for the design of the Alhóndiga de Granaditas and the Churrigueresque bell tower of the Basilica of Guanajuato. The reservoir provided water for the mine at Marfil during its boom period and contributed to the development of foundries in this area of the city.

It is now ringed by new homes and businesses constructed over the last few years by both residents and newcomers to the district of Marfil de Guanajuato.
